Custom Homes, Asheville NC
A custom home is a one-time decision you live with for decades. We design and build yours the way only a fireman-founded contractor would — measured twice, built to code, and ready for whatever comes.
Off Duty Fireman Construction delivers a true design-and-build custom home experience. We use an in-house design team and Chief Architect software to produce state-of-the-art plans, photo-real renderings, and 3D walkthroughs — so you can see your future home before a single nail is driven.
This in-house approach eliminates outside design fees, keeps revisions fast, and means the person building your home is also the one designing it. To us, that just makes sense.

Hand-Picked Trades

Veteran-Owned
Service-disabled veteran ownership. Discipline, accountability, and follow-through built in.
It Starts by Listening
One of the most important parts of building a custom home is hearing what our clients actually want. We can't stress this enough — speak up. Tell us about your morning routine, where the dog sleeps, what failed in your last house, the floor plan you've been dreaming about. Whatever it is — a specific number of bathrooms, a unique layout, a screened porch off the kitchen, a workshop tucked under the garage — let us know. We'll do whatever it takes to accommodate.
Living in a home built for somebody else is bound to leave you with compromises. Our job is to remove those compromises, one decision at a time.

Custom Home FAQs
Can I afford a custom home?
Most people are surprised to find custom homes are more affordable than they thought — especially when you compare lifetime cost. Quality construction lasts, and when you pay for quality you skip the constant repairs and upgrades a builder-grade home demands.
Can you customize an existing floor plan?
Yes. Some structural items can't change once a plan is committed, but if you've found a floor plan you love except for a few details — bring it in. We can almost always make adjustments that fit your needs.
How long does a custom home take to build?
Timelines depend on scope, site complexity, and material lead times. We give you a realistic schedule before we start, then update you daily in Buildertrend so you always know where things stand.
How much experience do you have with custom homes?
We've been doing this in Western North Carolina for years. Our experience means your home will be sturdy, beautiful, and built to your expectations — not somebody else's spec sheet.
Do I need to bring my own architect?
No. Our in-house design team handles plans and 3D modeling through Chief Architect. You can bring outside plans if you have them, or we can start from a blank page together.
What if I don't own land yet?
We can help. We've walked many properties with prospective clients to evaluate slope, drainage, well/septic potential, and view orientation before they make an offer. A free lot evaluation can save you a lot of money.
